ALTERNATIVE EVENT

The highlight of the Pope's visit was a public mass in the Phoenix Park this Sunday, which over 500,000 people expected to attend - it was later reported that only 150,000 attended. I was one of those who did not attend because I was busy photographing an alternative event in the City Centre.

I had the opportunity to photograph the Pope's visit to Ireland but there was little point in doing so as there were so many expert and professional photographers from all parts of the World that could produce much better results than I could.

I really needed to find a different angle and this morning I received it when I was contacted by Darragh Doyle inviting me to an event at the Garden Of Remembrance at Parnell Square which is less than five minutes from my apartment.

The event featured the following: Colm O'Gorman, Hozier, Villagers, Mary Coughlan, Sarah Clancy, Liam Ó Maonlaí, Susie Q, Grace Dyas, Marian Keyes, Brian Kennedy, Mary Black and Lankum.

I would like to mention that I decided to switch from Canon DSLR to mirrorless in 2010 when I first purchased a Sony NEX-5. The process has taken about eight years and my current camera is a Sony A7RIII. Over the last eighteen months I have spent a lot of cash acquiring top class lenses and I am still learning how best to such glass so some of my photographs may not be as good as they should but i have included them in order to give a feel of what the event was like.
