A WALK ALONG THE BEACH

BETWEEN BOOTERSTOWN AND MERRION GATES

SORRY FOR THE DELAY
A WALK ALONG THE BEACH [ BETWEEN BOOTERSTOWN STATION AND MERRION GATES]

I should mention that I was more than depressed by the amount of litter and discarded industrial waste. Also the area really stank. It was ten years ago when I took these photographs but I plan to revisit the area again within the next few weeks to see if things have changed.

For those of you who are not from Dublin I should mention that ‘Merrion Gates’ is a controlled level crossing that acts as a massive bottleneck which causes ongoing daily tailbacks on the Merrion and Rock Roads as traffic funnels into the narrow Strand Road towards Ringsend.

Towards the end of last year [2016] it was officially announced that the National Transport Authority had come up with a €48 million solution to the problems caused by the level crossing.

It is suggested that an underpass for use by cyclists and pedestrians will be created and then the railway crossing will be closed to traffic. Cars and trucks will reach Merrion Road on a new road and bridge over the rail line further north through the car parks of Merrion Hall on Strand Road and Our Lady Queen of Peace church on Merrion Road.
