SAINT BRIGID’S CHURCH

With the building of a large number of houses in Killester, in the 1920’s, a church became necessary for the spiritual needs of the new community.

The church was consecrated by the Archbishop of Dublin, Dr. Edward Byrne, on the 26th September 1926.

With the large growth of housing developments in the 1940’s and 1950’s it became necessary to increase the length of the church .

There is not much information available but I came across the following police press statement from early 2012:

“Theft of Tabernacle from St Brigids Church, Killester, Dublin 5 on the 30/1/12. Gardaí in Raheny are appealing for information from the public in tracing a valuable Tabernacle. The Tabernacle was stolen from St. Brigids Church, Killester, Dublin 5 yesterday (30/1/12) between 12 noon and 3pm while the church was open to the public. The Reliquary / Tabernacle has a very distinctive celtic design on the front and on the two sides. It also has double doors on the front and had been in the church for over 50 years.”
